Spice Up Your Food with Herbs

This week we’re focusing on how to spice up your recipes with herbs and spices.

We often default to salt and pepper in our cooking, and salt can actually be detrimental in excess, raising our blood pressure, causing water retention, among other things. There are so many wonderful herbs and spices out there that are not only tasty to add to any meal but are healing in nature.

So go to the farmer’s market or your grocery store and look at the spice aisle. Look at spices like thyme, rosemary, basil. You can get the spices in dry, or if you’re at your local farmer’s market you can even get the fresh herb and spice. There’s nothing like the sweet smell of freshly chopped basil or parsley.

So this week’s challenge is to create a receipt using spices that you have never used before. There are plenty of online recipe resources that will help you to create your recipe. And of course if you have cookbooks, you can always use those as well. If you need a little bit of salt and pepper to taste, add that at the end. But allow the herbs and spices to really give you the flavor that you want so that you can enjoy your meals in a healthy way.
